This is one of coastal Georgia's best kept secrets. This unspoilt island is just amazing. It is full of history and has been mostly untouched. If you are on or near Saint Simons I highly recommend you do a day trip there. The boat leaves Hampton River Club Marina at 10:30 and returns at 4:30. Upon arrival, you are met by a naturalist who will take you on a guided tour of the island. A really yummy meal is included and you have the remainder of the afternoon to spend on seven miles of private beach. You can even stay over night, but it is a little pricey, but also recommended if your budget allows. The day trip is worth the cost, as the meal is great and the island is a must see. Dress comfortably, take your camera, and wear your swimsuit underneath your clothes. Take your iPod or journal for sitting out on the beach. You might also want to take a small thermos of ice water. They will provide insect repellent and sunscreen and can refill your thermos if necessary. The staff is friendly and accommodating.
